“I nearly missed out on living”

I was talking to my Nana recently and she told me about how I nearly missed out on living.

When she was pregnant with my Dad, she became very sick with pneumonia and pleurisy. The doctors were concerned for her life and advised her to abort the baby in order to save her life.

She refused and they both survived.

I am grateful for my Nana’s courage to stand up for her decision. I wouldn’t be here otherwise.

I am now 31 and have a beautiful daughter of my own. I think her decision has made me realise with greater clarity the huge power we each hold in our own hands to affect the future of our families by the decisions we make. Her choice has influenced her life, my Dad’s, myself and all my siblings and now my daughter.
