When I first found out that I was going to be a father, I wasn’t exactly excited.
My situation was not ideal. It wasn’t how I had hoped it to have been. So much for my plan to start a good career, buy a house, get married and then start a family. But here I was starting out at the wrong end of the plan.
Rather than get caught up in feeling sorry for myself and the situation that I had gotten myself into, I got on with preparing to be a father. For me, there would be no other option.
My life took on a whole new focus, and I found that, as each day passed, my love for this child grew stronger and stronger.
Nine months later, I witnessed the birth of my first child, a beautiful baby girl. It was the most incredible experience of my life. Fifteen years later, she is still just as beautiful and precious to me as the day she was born. I’m now a father to four children (two girls and two boys) and I feel the same way about each one of them. I’ve learnt that fatherhood comes with great responsibility, but the rewards are even greater.
Every day I count my blessings…1,2,3,4 and counting.
